At St. Mary's College our mission includes the holistic development of young men. At the centre of this philosophy is the goal to equip students with all the tools needed to engage this very evolving and challenging world. Thus, religion plays an integral part of the student's experience at the school. Students can expect and are exposed to a host of activity inside and outside the classroom during the academic year.
As part of the school's curriculum, Religious Knowledge is taught to students from Forms 1-6. The curriculum includes topics that cover the corpus of Catholic Christian doctrine and the various ethical issues that affect the life of the student and their involvement in modern life. In addition, students are given an overview and better understanding of other Christian traditions, the great world religions and indigenous Caribbean religions.
On a daily, weekly and monthly basis, the school offers its students opportunities to feed their spiritual hunger. Daily Mass is celebrated for the public at the College chapel on mornings at 7:00 a.m. before the beginning of the school day.
School prayers are said throughout the day using the public address system. The school also offers prayer and meditation meetings during lunch periods on a weekly basis. Finally, students may also involve themselves in after school groups such as the Legion of Mary.
The Religion Department constantly works towards ensuring that student life reaches beyond academics and therefore, it organizes, with the aid of other staff, a host of activity that should deepen the students' relationship with God and their fellow men throughout the school year:
